About Monique

Portrait of multidisciplinary designer Monique Meintjes.

I design brands, digital experiences and communication that people can actually understand.

I'm Monique Meintjes, a multidisciplinary designer based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

I work across graphic design, brand identity, digital design, UI/UX, websites, campaigns, presentations and editorial collateral. My projects have ranged from cybersecurity platforms and international business communication to luxury travel, hospitality, healthcare and fashion concepts.

I work with global clients and distributed teams, creating design that remains clear, consistent and effective across different audiences, markets and formats.

Working with global clients and teams

A little more than a job title

My work sits across several design disciplines because most real projects do not arrive neatly inside one category.

A website may also require campaign thinking, content structure, presentation design and a clearer brand system. A hospitality project may move from a rate sheet to a newsletter, a social campaign, a menu and an entire digital experience. I enjoy building the visual connection between those different parts.

I am particularly comfortable with projects that contain a lot of information and need structure. Whether I am designing a cybersecurity platform, a long-form sales presentation or a hospitality website, I focus on making the work feel clear, considered and appropriate for its audience.

I care about how something functions, how it is understood and how consistently it can be used after the initial design is complete.

  • Approximately seven years

    Previous career

    Teacher / Educator

Before moving into design full-time, I worked in education for approximately seven years.

Teaching developed skills that remain useful in my design work today: breaking down complex information, understanding different audiences, organising content, presenting ideas clearly and working patiently through feedback and revision.

How I approach a project

I usually begin by understanding what the work needs to communicate, who needs to understand it and where it will be used.

From there, I look at hierarchy, content, visual direction and the wider system around the individual deliverable. I prefer building work that can extend naturally across different formats rather than treating every item as a disconnected piece.

I am comfortable working independently, collaborating with developers and marketers, presenting ideas, responding to feedback and managing several projects at once.

I take deadlines seriously, but I also believe that good work benefits from clear communication and realistic planning.

Working principles

  1. 01Clarity before decoration
  2. 02Consistency across touchpoints
  3. 03Design for the actual audience
  4. 04Details matter, but so does the deadline
